Once again our country is in shock after of a mass shooting. On Wednesday, 28 year old Ian Long opened fire in Borderline Bar and Grill in Thousand Oaks, CA during college night. Long has since been confirmed dead.
In an instant a fun evening out turned into chaotic tragedy. According to news outlets such as Huffington Post and CNN, Long killed 12 innocent people and injured at least 20 others. Among the 12 killed was Alaina Housely, the 18 year old niece of The Real Talk Show’s Tamera Mowry-Housley and husband Journalist Adam Housley.
The Pepperdine University freshman was considered missing for more than 7 hours before anyone knew of her whereabouts or tragic fate. Tamera and Adam took to Twitter and Instagram in those hours to try to get information and also to ask for prayers from followers. Mowry-Housley even replied to the tweet of one of Alaina’s classmates saying, “Ashley this is her aunt Tamera Mowry Housley,” the actress wrote. “Can you please DM me your information?”.
Actress Tia Mowry, Tamera’s twin sister, also reached out to followers with an Instagram post saying, “Alaina Housely we are praying. We love u! If you know anything or any information please let us know. We love you! #borderline“.
After learning of Alaina’s death, the couple issued a statement saying, “Our hearts are broken. We just learned that our niece Alaina was one of the victims of last night’s shooting at Borderline bar in Thousand Oaks. Alaina was an incredible young woman with so much life ahead of her and we are devastated that her life was cut short in this manner. We thank everyone for your prayers and ask for privacy at this time.” The investigation into the shooting is ongoing and details are still coming in. We continue to pray for her family and all the families effected by this senseless act.
